Perhaps the most feared and despised of any Free
Company in recent memory, House Amathy is led by the thoroughly dreaded,
yet rarely seen, Sir Feron Amathy, a man whom has been called on more
than one occasion "the most evil man in the world."
House
Amathy came to prominence over 50 years ago during the Usurper's War
when the master of the House earned himself the dubious accolade of
being the undisputed master of terror tactics and ruthless pragmatism as
well being a feared battlefield commander and strategist.
Originally in that war House Amathy served the Usurper King Morgan Lathruin and did battle against the forces of the rightful King Edirais Meruin and the Free Companies that served him. To
destroy the will and ability of the "rebel" forces to wage a meaningful
war, House Amathy turned the ancestral lands of the House Meruin to
wasteland.
To
this day it is said many areas in the South of
Ediran have not recovered from his campaign and no small number of
prominent noble names were lost on his account. The Free Company known
as the Iron Brotherhood was also disbanded during this time after its
leader, the mighty Roringard of Axe, and his captains were supposedly
slain dishonorably by House Amathy in the middle of parley.
With
House Amathy at his side, the Usurper King seemed destined to destroy
the rightful revolution of the Meruins, yet at the pivotal Battle of
Dekin Feron Amathy renounced his allegiance to the Usurper House and slew Morgan Lathruin, ending the war in spirit if not in deed as the fighting continued on futilely for
several months after.
So House Amathy came into the service of House
Meruin. In following war against the Reavers of the West, House Amathy
again established itself as exceptional. Some claim that it was the Free
Company's plan, not the King's, that led to the sound defeat of the
invaders at the Battle of the Spiked Fields. Regardless, Feron Amathy
was honored with knighthood after the battle.
The elevating of a man whom many lords called murderer, monster, and oath breaker led to much unease. It was whispered after all that not all the towns that were
massacred and looted by the Reavers were indeed visited by the Reavers, but instead by House Amathy.
Regardless of such troubling rumors Feron Amathy became a lord and has served the realm diligently in the decades since, including participating in the re-admittance of the wayward twin city-states of Aleppo and Alobec.
In the taking of Doomed Sarnath, House Amathy again had a part and for its efforts his Grand Imperial Majesty Ediros Meruin III rewarded the House lands to the West of the city for its own use.
Among his men, Feron Amathy is considered a living legend, called both King Maker and King Breaker, destroyer of the Reaver horde, and even as they respect and worship him, they fear his displeasure. The stories concerning what happens to such men vary wildly, but all are horrifying and usually relayed in exquisite detail.
Ironically, most living men, even those in his Company, have never seen the man, leading some outsiders to speculate that the living legend is now simply a legend or even never existed and that his captains keep the myth alive to enhance their reputation.
Others wonder if "Feron Amathy" is not but a legacy name adopted by the leader of the Company. Perhaps there have been many men with the name of Feron Amathy, which, given the length of time he has supposedly been operating and the life expectancy of such men, would be the most likely explanation.
Currently much of House Amathy is stationed in the Northeastern reaches of Ediran and Azand, in and around New Sarnath, though it also maintains small garrisons throughout Ediran. The House's primary objectives are now to maintain peace in city and the region. [End of excerpt]
